Rainy December Day

The internet is crap today due to the weather - lots of rain and some wind gusts that blow our dish around.  In the last 3 days we have had ~3.5 inches of rain with a steady drizzle right now.  Lots of lightning and thunder, too.

Clove, seeking comfort from the scary thunder.  The big baby.
Be sure to turn the sound to get the full effect of the rainfall.

We have a rain gauge on the deck railing.  There was more than inch when I took the video.  Even more now.

If I don't have to be out and about, I do love a good rainy day.  Plus we need the rain; we are shy about 25 inches (average for Englishtown while I have been keeping records is over 100 inches annually)  I do hope we don't get all 25 inches before the end of the year!  Five or ten would do nicely.

  1. Years ago my dad and I went from Placencia to Monkey River during a heavy rain storm IN AN OPEN BOAT. I had courage in those days!

    1. I think this is you, Jeff? We have made many a trip in our open boat during a rainstorm. Just last year I arrived at the bank dripping wet from our trip and was politely asked to stand outside and drip a while longer before entering!

  2. Wow! I would be in heaven being at your house for a rain storm like that. Wish we’d get some rain. All we’ve got, again, is wind and high surf.

    1. It was a very enjoyable day for me. But last was scary - several instances of less than a second between the flash and the boom of lightning! Each time the house shook and hanging pictures rattled on the walls. Not much wind to speak of, but that meant it took the storm longer to pass over. I was happy to see the light of dawn.

  3. If only we could control the weather........ But that wouldn't work would it? No one would be happy! Mother Nature seems to be doing a good job of late of letting us know who is in charge.

    1. If we could control the weather, it would get jerked all over the place with different people wanting different things!

  4. Since childhood I've been afraid of thunders, lightnings, and storms. I like a quite rain, but not a heavy one. We badly need rain, yet if it's a heavy one, I sometimes pray to God to make it stop.
