Bilimbi Flowers

A short but sweet post today, in keeping with its subject, the bilimbi flower.  Bilimbi (Averrhoa bilimbi) is a fruit related to carambola, AKA starfruit.  Our tree, which we planted 2019, has begun to bear fruit now and again.  We have high hopes for it.  The lovely little flowers, no more than 3/4 inch long, emit a sweetly pleasant, although faint, fragrance.

    1. We planted it so that grows up right beside the deck rail - makes it easy to see and smell the flowers, and of course to harvest the fruits. The flowers are so tiny they would be easy to miss when walking on the ground.

  2. Spectacular flowers. I’ll have to look that up. Had never heard of it.

    1. The fruits are very high in oxalic acid, they taste almost like a fresh cucumber pickle. We like them added to cabbage slaw made with apple cider vinegar.
On a completely different topic - can you see my previous post about the butterflies? I put some videos in it, but it doesn't look like anyone has visited that post. Let me know, OK? Thanks.

    2. It wasn’t in my news feed for some reason. Thanks for sending me to it. BEAUTIFUL! (the butterflies and flowers, too)

    3. Good to know that the post is at least out there somewhere. I think it is because I reverted to draft and then it doesn't show up in people's feeds when I republish. Oh well, I will just direct people to it on my next post. Thanks!
