Royal Tern, Thalasseus maximus

A Royal Tern visited our dock yesterday, the first time we have seen one here in Englishtown.  Although they can be found any time of year along the Belize coast, they only breed in North America.  They are somewhat similar to Caspian Terns with their orange bills and black on the head.  But Caspian Terns are much larger and have more extensive black crowns than do the Royal Terns.

This one let me get pretty close while it had a bit of a grooming session.

Seems to be enjoying the warm sun as much as I do.
