Dawn and a Fat Boa

We had a very much appreciated night of rainfall last night that cooled things off, relatively speaking.  As I was getting for my morning run (technically morning "jog"), I saw this wonderful color developing as the sun rose over the sea.

Despite the bright beginning of the day, clouds soon set in, which kept the temperature reasonable in the morning.  By midday, the sun was back in full force.  This afternoon, our batteries are charged and water vats are full.

The little boa constrictor continues to hang out in the tamarind tree outside our back door.  I don't see it every day, but I am pretty sure that this tree is its home, for the time being at least.  A few days ago I noticed that it had a suspicious bulge.  A hummingbird-sized bulge.
Boa with a bulge.
Happy snake.  Sad bird.  Well, I suppose the bird isn't sad any longer.

  1. I have hummingbirds but no boa constrictors. I love that you have both. Gorgeous sunrise pictures.
We are getting a for-sure tropical rain here right now. I love it. Until the power goes off which it probably will.

    1. We have hundreds of hummingbirds, 5 species in all, that flock (haha) to the 5 feeders we keep filled with sugar water and the flowering plants that they love. If a feeder gets too low, they come to the screen door and chatter at me until I fill it! I guess we can spare one and again for the boa, but I don't want to witness it. Hope you get rain and keep your power.

    1. Thanks, Jen. And thanks for visiting. That sunrise is the view from our veranda and front steps. We look right out to the east. No sleeping late for us.

  3. Gorgeous photos. Oh, I'm not very comfortable with snakes. I would be REALLY concerned on the days I did NOT see it. I read the title as "Little Feather Boa," which I suppose isn't far from the truth.

    1. Thanks, Mitchell. I am wary of snakes, but they fascinate me. It is nice to be able to see this one up close from the veranda while it is in the tree. It's too small to be a concern right now, but later - who knows?

  4. You must be an early riser to see such a gorgeous sunrise on your jog. I would rather like to think the boa's bulge is a rat, nasty things they are!

    1. This is a tiny little boa, that bulge is smaller even than a mouse. And yes, I am a morning person. I woke up today at 4:45.

  5. You seem quite calm about having a boa hang out near you. I'm terrified of snakes and would run away screaming. Do they ever get in your dwelling?

    Love,
    Janie

    1. In 5 years, we have seen 2 snakes on the veranda and none in the cabana itself. As I told Mitchell above, I am wary of snakes but fascinated. I think they are beautiful. But I can understand peoples fear of them.

  6. Wow - those are glorious photos of the sun and skies.
What's scary about the boa, to me, is that it blends into that tree and scene so readily. From afar, you might not see it. Be careful, Wilma.
    Thanks for the amazing pictures.

    1. Glad you like the sun shots, Robyn. Thanks. That boa is amazingly well camouflaged. You can be right up on it and not see it. It hopes the birds can't see it either. I haven't seen it since I took those pictures. Hmmm, wonder where it is?
